Political

A few months away from the 12th edition of the Indian Ocean Islands Games, scheduled for the Comoros in August 2027, the Head of State, His Excellency President AZALI Assoumani, visited the Games Village in Mwandzaza Djumbe this Saturday. The visit enabled him to see the progress of the work and to measure the progress made in preparing for this major regional sporting event.

A village of 30 hectares to welcome delegations

The site covers 30 hectares and provides for the construction of 200 individual villas and 34 islets of accommodation for athletes and delegations. It will also include a mosque and a wooded park of 5 hectares, thought as a space of relaxation and life in the heart of the Village.
The aim of these infrastructures is to receive delegations in the best conditions and to contribute to the success of the competition.

A project that goes beyond sport

For the Comoros, this 12th edition is of historical importance. Nearly half a century after the Indian Ocean Islands Games were established, the country hosted them for the first time. A meeting that engages the responsibility of the entire nation and reflects the Comoros’ willingness to take their full place in the region.
During his visit, the Head of State, His Excellency President AZALI Assoumani, stressed the scope of this project for the future of the country. Designed to meet the needs of the Games, the Village is also part of a long-term development perspective. Its infrastructure must be a sustainable legacy, with expected impacts on economic activity, housing, services, food supply and road infrastructure.

A national challenge and ambition for youth

His Excellency President AZALI Assoumani recalled that the success of this event is a challenge for all Comorians. Everyone is called upon to contribute so that the country is ready to host the Games in the best possible conditions. The Head of State expressed confidence in the capacity of the Comoros to meet this challenge.
Beyond facilities, this initiative has a human and social dimension. For the Head of State, His Excellency President AZALI Assoumani, the development of sport is a lever to support youth, encourage talent and encourage the training of future Comorian athletes.

Collective mobilisation

The success of this event requires the commitment of all: public authorities, economic actors, partners and citizens each have a role to play. The Government intends to mobilize the necessary resources to complete the project and prepare the country for the 2027 deadline.

Through the Games Village, the Comoros is building much more than just a host: they are preparing a historic event, which will become a symbol of national pride, regional outreach and development for future generations.
